Outlook Web App

If you are still using your University of Illinois e-mail account, note that there are some changes that need to be made. They are moving us from Cites Express Mail to Exchange 2010. Just in case you haven't looked at your e-mail for a few days, you need to check it. There is a period of time when the accounts have to be transferred.

The good news is that you won't lose any of your Express Mail, and that this new  "Outlook Web App" doesn't time out as quickly as Express mail did. In fact, the person I talked to today said that if you check the box that you are using a private computer, it will stay open for 8 hours or so. It seems to be a bit faster too. Cites Express Mail was really slow on my computer!  Good luck with the new "app".

Debt Deal Spares Fed Pay, Benefits – for Now:  Thanks in part to the efforts of NARFE members, the debt limit compromise (Public Law 112-25) passed by Congress and signed into law by the President does not make any reductions in the retirement, pay or health benefits of federal employees and annuitants.  Spending caps in the law, however, could affect active federal employee job security because agency budgets may be impacted.  But the overall threat has NOT disappeared: Federal civilian retirement and health benefits continue to be vulnerable because the new law creates a bipartisan “Super Committee” of Congress with a mandate to cut spending by an additional $1.5 trillion before the end of this year. 

NARFE President Joe Beaudoin said: “Federal employees and annuitants have been given a reprieve in the debt-limit deal.  This, in large part, is due to the success of NARFE’s advocacy and communications campaign, ‘Protect America’s Heartbeat.’ “NARFE members made some 25,000 phone calls and sent over 215,000 e-mail messages to their legislators.  These contacts, along with the face-to-face meetings they conducted with lawmakers and letters to the editor they submitted to their local newspapers, were key to this victory.” 

An Enjoyable Day!

Twenty one IEAFCS Life Members and friends gathered at Mariah's Restaurant in Springfield today to reminisce and share current activities. It was a very enjoyable time, and the Life Member Committee is very glad so many were able to be there.

Today we want to share this important message concerning Federal benefits.

National Call Congress, President Obama Day:  Politicians in D.C. are plotting new attacks on federal workers in closed-door budget talks. NARFE members did not cause our deficit – we MUST BE HEARD.  On Wednesday, July 27^th, President Beaudoin implores each member to call President Obama, your two senators and your representative, and let your views be known.  Your representatives in Washington are making decisions that will affect your benefits and retirement even as you read this.

Toll Free Phone Numbers:  The toll free number for the White House is 1-888-225-8418.  The toll free number to reach the Capitol switchboard is 1-866-220-0044.  You will need to ask for your legislators by name or provide your ZIP Code.

Message:  Once connected to your lawmaker’s office, NARFE members should say:

• “My name is __________________, and I live in (name city/town). I am a federal retiree (or worker).

• Don’t single us out by making more cuts to the retirement and health benefits we earned through years of serving the public.

• Federal workers and retirees have already sacrificed pay and benefits.”

Whether you speak to a staff person or leave a recorded message, request that your lawmaker respond in writing to your phone call. For that reason, be sure to leave your mailing address.  Contact only your own representative and two senators. Lawmakers will disregard your message if you are not a voting constituent.
