Beautiful Quilts!

Here is a photo of Flossine Schrader as she told the story of the Underground Railroad quilts. Pictured below are samples of many quilts she brought to show to our Southern Region IEAFCS group. Most everything is made from scraps that were donated to the Thrift Store in Pinckneyville.

Amazing what you can do with scraps and left overs!

Southern Region Meets

Southern Region IEAFCS met with Joyce Pyatt recently. The group enjoyed catching up on Extension news, discussion of insurance and benefits changes, and a delicious lunch. Thanks to Joyce and Milly Kaiser, and Joyce's husband, Paul, for hosting.

After lunch Flossine Schrader presented a very interesting program on Quilts and their role in the communications of the Underground Railroad. Every design meant something whether it was a bears paw, a crossroads, or the drunkards path. Flossine had over a dozen quilt blocks to illustrate her talking points. Here is a sample of most of them.

Flossine also showed many quilts she has made from scraps and remnants. They are now beautiful creations. Photos of these will be in a future blog.

Those attending the meeting were Janet Burnett, Mary Lou Garbe, Joy Richey, Milly Kaiser, Joyce Pyatt, and Ruby Lingle. Milly's sister, Kathy, was also a guest.
